Emblem represent life, death and rebirth

8.5ft x 2.5ft x 4 ft copper

Elongating the Thread, Selected Alumni Show, XL Projects, Syracuse University, February 2010.

The three forms of Emblem represent life, death and rebirth. Life - flame-like; Death fallen to the ground, ending point down; and Rebirth broken, limp on the ground, but tip reaching skyward. All three pieces emerge from the same core and are based on the growth of plants whose emerging leaves reach, rise, bend to the ground and create stability for the forthcoming life. As always images in nature inspire and become metaphors for human experiences, and in this case the cycle of personal growth.
